Monophenols Market Size in SADC

In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in the SADC monophenols market, when its value increased by 12% to $X. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a slight descent. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, monophenols production rose remarkably to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, continues to indicate a perceptible slump. The level of production peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, production remained at a lower figure.

Monophenols exports skyrocketed to X tons in 2021, with an increase of 48% compared with the previous year's figure. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2021, South Africa (X tons) represented the key exporter of monophenols in SADC, making up 99.9% of total export.

South Africa was also the fastest-growing in terms of the monophenols exports, with a CAGR of +1.3% from 2012 to 2021. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) also remains the largest monophenols supplier in SADC.

In South Africa, monophenols exports decreased by an average annual rate of -1.4% over the period from 2012-2021.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in SADC stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 10% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the export price increased by 40%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for South Africa.

From 2012 to 2021, the rate of growth in terms of prices for South Africa amounted to -2.7% per year.

Monophenols Imports

Imports in SADC

Monophenols imports contracted notably to X tons in 2021, reducing by -20.8% compared with the year before. Over the period under review, imports recorded a pronounced curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 66% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then contracted notably in the following year.

In value terms, monophenols imports shrank to $X in 2021. In general, imports showed a pronounced slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 61%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, South Africa (X tons) represented the major importer of monophenols, achieving 57% of total imports. Zimbabwe (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 20% share, followed by Tanzania (5.8%) and Angola (5.3%). Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons), Seychelles (X tons) and Zambia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to monophenols imports into South Africa stood at -5.8%. At the same time, Seychelles (+42.6%), Zimbabwe (+23.3%), Tanzania (+11.1%) and Angola (+3.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Seychelles emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in SADC, with a CAGR of +42.6% from 2012-2021. Democratic Republic of the Congo experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Zambia (-5.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Angola and Seychelles increased by +17, +4, +2.3 and +2.2 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported monophenols in SADC, comprising 63% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Zimbabwe ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Tanzania, with a 5.5% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in South Africa stood at -5.1%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Zimbabwe (+19.9% per year) and Tanzania (+6.4% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in SADC stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the import price increased by 42% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Seychelles ($X per ton), while Angola ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Seychelles (+6.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
