The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 93%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, snow motor vehicle exports totaled $X in 2022. Overall, exports faced a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 163% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

South Africa dominates exports structure, resulting at X units, which was near 84% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Seychelles (X units), generating a 5.4% share of total exports. Malawi (X units) and Mauritius (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Export price indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.5% over the last decade. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, snow motor vehicle imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a slight contraction. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

South Africa dominates imports structure, accounting for X units, which was approx. 81% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Mauritius (X units), creating a 5.1% share of total imports. The following importers - Democratic Republic of the Congo (X units), Angola (X units), Seychelles (X units) and Madagascar (X units) - each accounted for an 8.8% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to snow motor vehicle imports into South Africa stood at -2.6%. At the same time, Madagascar (+20.0%), Democratic Republic of the Congo (+9.8%) and Mauritius (+6.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Madagascar emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in SADC, with a CAGR of +20.0% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Seychelles (-3.9%) and Angola (-7.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. South Africa (+13 p.p.), Mauritius (+3.4 p.p.), Democratic Republic of the Congo (+1.8 p.p.) and Madagascar (+1.5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
