South Africa prevails in exports structure, accounting for X units, which was approx. X% of total exports in 2022. Mauritius (X units) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Swaziland (X units). All these countries together took approx. X% share of total exports. Tanzania (X units) held a minor share of total exports.

Exports from South Africa increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Swaziland (X%), Tanzania (X%) and Mauritius (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Swaziland emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in SADC, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. While the share of Swaziland (X p.p.), South Africa (X p.p.) and Mauritius (X p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Tanzania ($X), Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X) and South Africa ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined X% share of total imports. Angola, Madagascar and Zambia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X%.

Madagascar, with a CAGR of X%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in SADC stood at $X per unit in 2022, surging by X% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a deep slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the import price increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2018 to 2022, the import prices remained at a lower figure.
