The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 37% against the previous year. There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per square meter), while Namibia totaled $X per square meter.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of multiple-walled insulating units of glass decreased by -0.8% to X square meters, falling for the third year in a row after two years of growth. In general, imports recorded a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 53%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X square meters in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, multiple-walled insulating glass unit imports rose to $X in 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a deep downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 52%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Tanzania (X square meters), Democratic Republic of the Congo (X square meters) and Swaziland (X square meters) represented roughly 60% of total imports in 2021. Comoros (X square meters) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Madagascar (X square meters) and Angola (X square meters). All these countries together held near 24% share of total imports. Mozambique (X square meters) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Swaziland (with a CAGR of +102.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Tanzania ($X), Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X) and Swaziland ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 52% of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, Swaziland, with a CAGR of +72.5%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in SADC stood at $X per square meter in 2021, rising by 3.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a mild curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 41%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per square meter in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Angola ($X per square meter), while Comoros ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Angola (+5.7%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
