Narrow Woven Fabric Market Size in SADC

The SADC narrow woven fabric market dropped slightly to $X in 2021, remaining constant against the previous year. The total production indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production increased by +3.7% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 54%. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in SADC

In 2021, approx. X tons of narrow woven fabrics were exported in SADC; rising by 31% against the year before. Total exports indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +51.9% against 2019 indices. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, narrow woven fabric exports surged to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a perceptible expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

South Africa represented the main exporter of narrow woven fabrics in SADC, with the volume of exports recording X tons, which was approx. 67% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Botswana (X tons), committing a 29% share of total exports.

South Africa was also the fastest-growing in terms of the narrow woven fabrics exports, with a CAGR of +9.2% from 2012 to 2021. Botswana (-3.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of South Africa increased by +25 percentage points.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest narrow woven fabric supplier in SADC, comprising 70% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Botswana ($X), with a 14% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in South Africa amounted to +8.5%.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in SADC amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 26% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a slight shrinkage. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per ton), while Botswana stood at $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (-0.6%).

In 2021, approx. X tons of narrow woven fabrics were imported in SADC; growing by 39% compared with the previous year. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, narrow woven fabric imports soared to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2021, South Africa (X tons) represented the main importer of narrow woven fabrics, creating 42% of total imports. Madagascar (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Botswana (X tons), Tanzania (X tons) and Lesotho (X tons). All these countries together held near 40% share of total imports. The following importers - Swaziland (X tons), Namibia (X tons) and Angola (X tons) - each recorded a 9.8% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to narrow woven fabric imports into South Africa stood at -5.1%. At the same time, Namibia (+22.9%), Lesotho (+22.8%), Tanzania (+15.8%), Botswana (+15.0%), Madagascar (+11.8%), Angola (+5.8%) and Swaziland (+4.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Namibia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in SADC, with a CAGR of +22.9% from 2012-2021. While the share of Madagascar (+7.5 p.p.), Botswana (+6.9 p.p.), Lesotho (+6.9 p.p.), Tanzania (+6.1 p.p.) and Namibia (+2.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of South Africa (-31.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest narrow woven fabric importing markets in SADC were Madagascar ($X), South Africa ($X) and Lesotho ($X), together comprising 67% of total imports. Tanzania, Swaziland, Botswana, Namibia and Angola lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 22%.

Tanzania, with a CAGR of +13.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in SADC amounted to $X per ton, standing approx. at the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.2%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 31% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Madagascar ($X per ton), while Botswana ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (+2.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
