Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X litres in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, non-alcoholic beverage, not containing milk exports soared to $X in 2022. In general, exports posted a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 74%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

South Africa (X litres) and Tanzania (X litres) prevails in exports structure, together committing 90% of total exports. Zambia (X litres), Swaziland (X litres) and Zimbabwe (X litres) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Zimbabwe (with a CAGR of +59.2%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, South Africa ($X), Tanzania ($X) and Zambia ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined 95% share of total exports. Swaziland and Zimbabwe lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 4.1%.

Zimbabwe, with a CAGR of +56.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the export price in SADC amounted to $X per litre, reducing by -8.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a pronounced descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the export price increased by 11%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per litre in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per litre), while Swaziland ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (-1.5%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2022, overseas purchases of non-alcoholic beverages, not containing milk decreased by -24.1% to X litres, falling for the second consecutive year after three years of growth. Over the period under review, imports saw a mild shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 30%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X litres in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, non-alcoholic beverage, not containing milk imports declined rapidly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports saw a pronounced reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 25%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Democratic Republic of the Congo (X litres), distantly followed by Botswana (X litres), Mozambique (X litres), South Africa (X litres) and Namibia (X litres) were the main importers of non-alcoholic beverages, not containing milk, together comprising 82% of total imports. Tanzania (X litres), Angola (X litres) and Lesotho (X litres) took a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Democratic Republic of the Congo (with a CAGR of +22.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Botswana ($X), Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X) and Mozambique ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 59% of total imports. South Africa, Tanzania, Namibia, Angola and Lesotho lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 28%.

Tanzania, with a CAGR of +14.5%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in SADC amounted to $X per litre, with an increase of 2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a mild decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the import price increased by 29% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per litre. From 2018 to 2022, the import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Tanzania ($X per litre), while Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
