For the third consecutive year, SADC recorded decline in shipments abroad of non-domestic dryers, which decreased by -26.4% to X units in 2021. In general, exports faced a significant contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when exports increased by 334%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, non-domestic dryer exports contracted markedly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports recorded a abrupt decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when exports increased by 368%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
South Africa was the main exporting country with an export of about X units, which finished at 55% of total exports. Swaziland (X units) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 14% share, followed by Mozambique (8.1%), Tanzania (7.3%) and Angola (5.8%). Madagascar (X units) and Zimbabwe (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to non-domestic dryer exports from South Africa stood at -36.3%. At the same time, Tanzania (+48.2%), Zimbabwe (+40.8%), Mozambique (+20.6%), Madagascar (+11.4%) and Angola (+8.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Tanzania emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in SADC, with a CAGR of +48.2% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Swaziland (-13.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Swaziland (+12 p.p.), Mozambique (+8 p.p.), Tanzania (+7.3 p.p.), Angola (+5.7 p.p.), Madagascar (+3 p.p.) and Zimbabwe (+2.3 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of South Africa (-42.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) emerged as the largest non-domestic dryer supplier in SADC, comprising 64% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Swaziland ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by Mozambique, with a 4.4% share.
In South Africa, non-domestic dryer exports decreased by an average annual rate of -17.4% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Swaziland (-19.0% per year) and Mozambique (+7.6% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in SADC stood at $X per unit in 2021, shrinking by -15.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 an increase of 336% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Swaziland ($X per unit), while Zimbabwe ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (+29.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in SADC
In 2021, the amount of non-domestic dryers imported in SADC skyrocketed to X units, rising by 50% compared with the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a abrupt decline. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, non-domestic dryer imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
South Africa represented the key importer of non-domestic dryers in SADC, with the volume of imports reaching X units, which was near 36% of total imports in 2021. Democratic Republic of the Congo (X units) held a 19% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Angola (18%) and Tanzania (14%). Zimbabwe (X units), Mozambique (X units) and Zambia (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Democratic Republic of the Congo (with a CAGR of +32.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported non-domestic dryers in SADC, comprising 60% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Angola ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Democratic Republic of the Congo, with a 9.7% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in South Africa totaled -1.3%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Angola (-2.0% per year) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (+22.9% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in SADC stood at $X per unit in 2021, increasing by 14% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 230% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per unit), while Zambia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
