South Africa dominates food structure, finishing at X units, which was near 86% of total imports in 2022. Mauritius (X units), Botswana (X units), Angola (X units) and Tanzania (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Imports into South Africa increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Tanzania (+31.2%), Mauritius (+18.9%) and Botswana (+15.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Tanzania emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in SADC, with a CAGR of +31.2% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Angola (-11.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Mauritius (+2.7 p.p.) and South Africa (+1.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Angola (-7.9 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported non-domestic percolators and equipment for cooking or heating food in SADC, comprising 84% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Mauritius ($X), with a 3.9% share of total imports. It was followed by Angola, with a 1.8% share.
