In 2022, South Africa (X units) was the main exporter of non-electric bakery ovens, mixing up 73% of total exports. Mozambique (X units) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Zambia (X units). All these countries together held approx. 20% share of total exports. The following exporters - Botswana (X units), Namibia (X units) and Tanzania (X units) - together made up 7.8% of total exports.

By contrast, Botswana (-17.1%), Namibia (-23.2%) and Tanzania (-35.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. South Africa (+16 p.p.), Mozambique (+13 p.p.) and Zambia (+5.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Namibia and Tanzania saw its share reduced by -2.6% and -23.3% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest non-electric bakery oven supplier in SADC, comprising 53% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Zambia ($X), with a 6.7% share of total exports. It was followed by Namibia, with a 4.8% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in South Africa totaled -19.9%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Zambia (-1.0% per year) and Namibia (-19.6% per year).

In 2022, the export price in SADC amounted to $X per unit, increasing by 755% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a perceptible setback. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Namibia ($X per unit), while Mozambique ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, overseas purchases of non-electric bakery ovens decreased by -51.2% to X units, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 998%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, non-electric bakery oven imports reduced markedly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports saw a abrupt slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 168%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2022, South Africa (X units) represented the key importer of non-electric bakery ovens, constituting 46% of total imports. Angola (X units) took a 23% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Mozambique (13%) and Botswana (6.2%). Madagascar (X units) and Mauritius (X units) took a minor share of total imports.
