Metal Non-Electric Bell Market Size in SADC

The SADC metal non-electric bell market skyrocketed to $X in 2021, picking up by 17% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, saw a slight setback. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 38%. Over the period under review, production reached the maximum level at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, production remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, exports of non-electric bells and gongs of base metal in SADC amounted to X tons, surging by 9.7% against the previous year. Overall, exports, however, saw a abrupt contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 58% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, metal non-electric bell exports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a pronounced decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 107% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2021, South Africa (X tons) represented the largest exporter of non-electric bells and gongs of base metal, committing 80% of total exports. Tanzania (X kg) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Mauritius (X kg). All these countries together took approx. 16% share of total exports. The following exporters - Zimbabwe (X kg) and Botswana (X kg) - each finished at a 3.5% share of total exports.

Exports from South Africa decreased at an average annual rate of -9.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Mauritius (+38.4%), Botswana (+7.7%), Zimbabwe (+6.4%) and Tanzania (+2.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mauritius emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in SADC, with a CAGR of +38.4% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Tanzania and Mauritius increased by +6.4 and +5.4 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest metal non-electric bell supplier in SADC, comprising 71% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Mauritius ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Tanzania, with an 11% share.

In South Africa, metal non-electric bell exports plunged by an average annual rate of -7.1% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Mauritius (+67.3% per year) and Tanzania (+3.5% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in SADC stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 17% against the previous year. Export price indicated a noticeable increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, metal non-electric bell export price increased by +43.3% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 40% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Mauritius ($X per ton), while Botswana ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

After eight years of decline, purchases abroad of non-electric bells and gongs of base metal increased by 11% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a abrupt slump. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, metal non-electric bell imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt slump. The level of import peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

South Africa represented the largest importer of non-electric bells and gongs of base metal in SADC, with the volume of imports resulting at X tons, which was near 52% of total imports in 2021. Tanzania (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Mauritius (X tons) and Zambia (X tons). All these countries together took near 32% share of total imports. Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons), Madagascar (X tons) and Angola (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Imports into South Africa decreased at an average annual rate of -2.0% from 2012 to 2021. Mauritius experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Democratic Republic of the Congo (-4.5%), Angola (-12.1%), Madagascar (-12.4%), Zambia (-14.9%) and Tanzania (-15.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of South Africa (+25 p.p.), Mauritius (+5.7 p.p.) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (+1.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Zambia (-5.9 p.p.) and Tanzania (-13.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported non-electric bells and gongs of base metal in SADC, comprising 51% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Tanzania ($X), with a 21% share of total imports. It was followed by Mauritius, with a 7.8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in South Africa stood at -3.2%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Tanzania (-3.6% per year) and Mauritius (-2.6% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in SADC stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 6.3% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.3%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the import price increased by 44% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Tanzania ($X per ton), while Madagascar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
