Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X units in 2021, and then reduced rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, mechanical hand floor sweeper exports declined rapidly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 17% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021, and then shrank markedly in the following year.

Exports by Country

South Africa dominates exports structure, recording X units, which was approx. 94% of total exports in 2022. The following exporters - Botswana (X units) and Namibia (X units) - each accounted for a 4.5% share of total exports.

South Africa was also the fastest-growing in terms of the non-motorised hand-operated mechanical floor sweepers exports, with a CAGR of +5.9% from 2012 to 2022. Namibia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Botswana (-7.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. After three years of growth, overseas purchases of non-motorised hand-operated mechanical floor sweepers decreased by -29.7% to X units in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a mild slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 32% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, mechanical hand floor sweeper imports declined notably to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 42% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then reduced notably in the following year.

In 2022, South Africa (X units) was the key importer of non-motorised hand-operated mechanical floor sweepers, generating 35% of total imports. Moreover, Democratic Republic of the Congo emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in SADC, with a CAGR of +41.2% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Angola (-4.6%), Botswana (-7.0%) and Tanzania (-17.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. South Africa (+14 p.p.), Democratic Republic of the Congo (+5.7 p.p.), Mauritius (+4.8 p.p.), Namibia (+3.3 p.p.), Madagascar (+3 p.p.) and Zambia (+1.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Botswana, Angola and Tanzania saw its share reduced by -4.2%, -6.6% and -24.5% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported non-motorised hand-operated mechanical floor sweepers in SADC, comprising 50% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Angola ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Madagascar, with a 7.1% share.

In South Africa, mechanical hand floor sweeper imports increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Angola (-2.5% per year) and Madagascar (+15.5% per year).
