Total imports indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +70.3% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 40%. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, oxides of boron imports expanded remarkably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 75%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
South Africa prevails in imports structure, reaching X tons, which was approx. 85% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Zimbabwe (X tons), committing a 6.1% share of total imports. Tanzania (X tons) and Zambia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Imports into South Africa increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Zimbabwe (+26.2%), Zambia (+10.4%) and Tanzania (+7.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Zimbabwe emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in SADC, with a CAGR of +26.2% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Zimbabwe increased by +5.2 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported oxides of boron, boric acids and inorganic acids in SADC, comprising 87% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Zimbabwe ($X), with a 4.6% share of total imports. It was followed by Zambia, with a 2.2% share.
In South Africa, oxides of boron imports increased at an average annual rate of +7.9% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Zimbabwe (+15.3% per year) and Zambia (+8.4% per year).
Import Prices by Country
