Assembled Parquet Panels Market Size in SADC

After three years of growth, the SADC assembled parquet panels market decreased by -5.4% to $X in 2021. The total consumption indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, consumption increased by +59.2% against 2015 indices. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2020, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, assembled parquet panels production declined to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. The total production indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production increased by +58.7% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the production volume increased by 28% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2020, and then fell in the following year.

Exports in SADC

In 2021, after four years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of assembled parquet panels, when their volume decreased by -20.8% to X tons. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 116% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2020, and then declined remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, assembled parquet panels exports declined modestly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 56%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2020, and then fell modestly in the following year.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Mozambique (X tons) represented the largest exporter of assembled parquet panels, generating 70% of total exports. It was distantly followed by South Africa (X tons), making up a 24% share of total exports. Angola (X tons) and Zimbabwe (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Mozambique was also the fastest-growing in terms of the assembled parquet panels exports, with a CAGR of +76.8% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Angola (+76.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Zimbabwe (-3.4%) and South Africa (-6.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Mozambique and Angola increased by +69 and +3.2 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, the largest assembled parquet panels supplying countries in SADC were Mozambique ($X), South Africa ($X) and Angola ($X), with a combined 96% share of total exports.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Mozambique, with a CAGR of +78.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in SADC stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 25% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a slight decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the export price increased by 26%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per ton), while Zimbabwe ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (+4.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in SADC

In 2021, supplies from abroad of assembled parquet panels was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 45%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, assembled parquet panels imports surged to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 50%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

South Africa represented the largest importer of assembled parquet panels in SADC, with the volume of imports resulting at X tons, which was approx. 67% of total imports in 2021. Lesotho (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 12% share, followed by Namibia (5.3%). The following importers - Mauritius (X tons), Mozambique (X tons), Angola (X tons) and Botswana (X tons) - together made up 12% of total imports.

Imports into South Africa increased at an average annual rate of +11.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Botswana (+22.3%) and Lesotho (+8.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Botswana emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in SADC, with a CAGR of +22.3% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Mauritius (-3.5%), Mozambique (-4.8%), Angola (-15.7%) and Namibia (-16.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of South Africa (+36 p.p.), Lesotho (+5 p.p.) and Botswana (+1.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Mozambique (-2.8 p.p.), Mauritius (-2.8 p.p.), Angola (-10.7 p.p.) and Namibia (-25.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported assembled parquet panels in SADC, comprising 69% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Lesotho ($X), with a 5.7% share of total imports. It was followed by Namibia, with a 5.4% share.

In South Africa, assembled parquet panels imports expanded at an average annual rate of +15.0% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Lesotho (+1.1% per year) and Namibia (-10.2% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in SADC stood at $X per ton in 2021, stabilizing at the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.5%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 8.7%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Angola ($X per ton), while Lesotho ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
