South Africa (X tons) represented roughly 99% of total exports in 2021.
South Africa was also the fastest-growing in terms of the persimmons exports, with a CAGR of -7.9% from 2012 to 2021. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) also remains the largest persimmon supplier in SADC.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of persimmons decreased by -19.4% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports showed a pronounced downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 64% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, persimmon imports dropped remarkably to $X in 2021. Overall, imports saw a abrupt decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 62% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Botswana represented the major importer of persimmons in SADC, with the volume of imports recording X tons, which was near 71% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Namibia (X tons) and Mauritius (X tons), together committing an 18% share of total imports. The following importers - Lesotho (X tons), Zimbabwe (X tons) and Angola (X tons) - together made up 7.5% of total imports.
Botswana was also the fastest-growing in terms of the persimmons imports, with a CAGR of +38.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Namibia (+29.9%), Zimbabwe (+22.3%) and Lesotho (+6.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Mauritius (-16.7%) and Angola (-27.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe and Lesotho increased by +68, +10, +2.4 and +1.9 percentage points, respectively.
In value terms, Botswana ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported persimmons in SADC, comprising 68% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Mauritius ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Namibia, with an 8.9% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Botswana amounted to +46.2%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Mauritius (-19.4% per year) and Namibia (+31.9% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in SADC stood at $X per ton in 2021, reducing by -19.3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a perceptible decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 18% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Angola ($X per ton), while Zimbabwe ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Botswana (+5.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
