In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest metal pickling preparations supplier in SADC, comprising 95% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Swaziland ($X), with a 2.4% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in South Africa totaled -6.1%.

Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, metal pickling preparations imports expanded significantly to $X in 2021. In general, imports recorded a abrupt contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 22% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

South Africa represented the main importing country with an import of around X tons, which recorded 41% of total imports.
