The SADC pile-driver market soared to $X in 2021, increasing by 35% against the previous year. Overall, consumption, however, continues to indicate a mild curtailment. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the market remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, pile-driver production reached $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, production showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 20%. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, production remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, approx. X units of pile-drivers and pile-extractors were exported in SADC; shrinking by -3.4% on 2020. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 274% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, pile-driver exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 138%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

South Africa represented the major exporting country with an export of around X units, which recorded 41% of total exports. Swaziland (X units) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Tanzania (X units), Zambia (X units) and Mozambique (X units). All these countries together took approx. 51% share of total exports. Namibia (X units) and Mauritius (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to pile-driver exports from South Africa stood at +2.1%. At the same time, Swaziland (+36.1%), Tanzania (+35.1%), Zambia (+24.1%), Mozambique (+19.6%) and Mauritius (+10.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Swaziland emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in SADC, with a CAGR of +36.1% from 2012-2021. Namibia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia, Mozambique and Mauritius increased by +17, +15, +6.1, +3.7 and +2.4 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, the largest pile-driver supplying countries in SADC were Tanzania ($X), South Africa ($X) and Swaziland ($X), with a combined 64% share of total exports.

Swaziland, with a CAGR of +67.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in SADC stood at $X per unit in 2021, surging by 29% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a abrupt decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 173% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Mauritius ($X per unit), while South Africa ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mauritius (+20.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in SADC

In 2021, approx. X units of pile-drivers and pile-extractors were imported in SADC; increasing by 7.1% compared with the year before. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 8,404%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, pile-driver imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible slump. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

The purchases of the three major importers of pile-drivers and pile-extractors, namely Madagascar, Tanzania and South Africa, represented more than two-thirds of total import. Mozambique (X units) held a 5.7% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Swaziland (5.7%) and Zimbabwe (5.4%). Botswana (X units) held a relatively small share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Madagascar (with a CAGR of +56.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest pile-driver importing markets in SADC were South Africa ($X), Madagascar ($X) and Mozambique ($X), with a combined 67% share of total imports.

Madagascar, with a CAGR of +74.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in SADC amounted to $X per unit, increasing by 116% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 an increase of 17,263%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2017 to 2021, the import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Mozambique ($X per unit), while Tanzania ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Botswana (+19.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
