South Africa (-24.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, pineapple juice (single strength) export price increased by +98.2% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 65%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Madagascar ($X per ton), while South Africa stood at $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Madagascar (+3.4%).

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Mauritius (with a CAGR of +52.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Mozambique ($X), Seychelles ($X) and Botswana ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 80% of total imports. Namibia, Mauritius, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Lesotho and Angola lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 17%.

Among the main importing countries, Mauritius, with a CAGR of +47.2%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in SADC stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 5.4% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the import price increased by 18% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Mozambique ($X per ton), while Lesotho ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Botswana (+9.9%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
