Polyacetals Market Size in SADC

The SADC polyacetals market skyrocketed to $X in 2021, with an increase of 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a mild contraction. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the market remained at a lower figure.

Polyacetals Production in SADC

In value terms, polyacetals production reduced modestly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production saw a abrupt slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the production volume increased by 32% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in SADC

In 2021, shipments abroad of polyacetals in primary forms increased by 81% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, exports saw buoyant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 367% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, polyacetals exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports showed a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when exports increased by 230%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

South Africa represented the key exporter of polyacetals in primary forms in SADC, with the volume of exports amounting to X tons, which was near 67% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Zambia (X tons), generating a 31% share of total exports. Mauritius (X tons) took a relatively small share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to polyacetals exports from South Africa stood at +4.8%. At the same time, Zambia (+60.9%) and Mauritius (+4.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Zambia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in SADC, with a CAGR of +60.9% from 2012-2021. While the share of Zambia (+30 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of South Africa (-25.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest polyacetals supplier in SADC, comprising 78% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Zambia ($X), with a 20% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in South Africa amounted to +4.8%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Zambia (+54.6% per year) and Mauritius (+0.3% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in SADC amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a mild reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the export price increased by 27%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per ton), while Zambia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (-0.0%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Polyacetals Imports

Imports in SADC

Polyacetals imports skyrocketed to X tons in 2021, jumping by 25% on 2020. Total imports indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -13.1% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 65% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, polyacetals imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

South Africa represented the largest importer of polyacetals in primary forms in SADC, with the volume of imports amounting to X tons, which was near 68% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Zambia (X tons), comprising a 25% share of total imports. Tanzania (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

South Africa was also the fastest-growing in terms of the polyacetals in primary forms imports, with a CAGR of +5.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Zambia (+1.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Tanzania (-3.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of South Africa (+13 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Zambia (-2.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported polyacetals in primary forms in SADC, comprising 75% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Zambia ($X), with a 14% share of total imports.

In South Africa, polyacetals imports increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Zambia (-5.0% per year) and Tanzania (+5.5% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in SADC amounted to $X per ton, surging by 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a mild decline. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per ton), while Zambia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
