In general, consumption, however, continues to indicate a deep downturn. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

Exports in SADC
In 2022, the amount of poultry incubators and brooders exported in SADC fell remarkably to X units, dropping by -27.4% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, exports recorded a deep reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 127%. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, poultry incubator exports fell rapidly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports showed a deep slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when exports increased by 329%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
South Africa dominates exports structure, finishing at X units, which was near 95% of total exports in 2022. Namibia (X units) and Tanzania (X units) held a minor share of total exports.
Exports from South Africa decreased at an average annual rate of -14.5% from 2012 to 2022. Tanzania experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Namibia (-6.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Namibia and Tanzania increased by +1.9 and +1.6 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest poultry incubator supplier in SADC, comprising 96% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Namibia ($X), with a 1.1% share of total exports.
In South Africa, poultry incubator exports contracted by an average annual rate of -7.2% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Namibia (-8.4% per year) and Tanzania (+43.2% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in SADC amounted to $X per unit, growing by 16% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the export price increased by 170% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per unit), while Namibia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (+8.4%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in SADC
In 2022, overseas purchases of poultry incubators and brooders increased by 18% to X units, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Overall, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 187% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, poultry incubator imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a moderate increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 228%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Mozambique (X units) represented the key importer of poultry incubators and brooders, committing 49% of total imports. South Africa (X units) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Tanzania (X units) and Zimbabwe (X units). All these countries together held approx. 43% share of total imports. Angola (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to poultry incubator imports into Mozambique stood at +8.8%. At the same time, Tanzania (+26.5%) and Zimbabwe (+13.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Tanzania emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in SADC, with a CAGR of +26.5% from 2012-2022. Mozambique (+27 p.p.), Tanzania (+14 p.p.) and Zimbabwe (+7.1 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Angola and South Africa saw its share reduced by -5.6% and -36.9% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.
In value terms, Mozambique ($X), South Africa ($X) and Tanzania ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 81% share of total imports.
Tanzania, with a CAGR of +20.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in SADC stood at $X per unit in 2022, increasing by 8.4% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.0%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 16% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per unit), while Mozambique ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (+9.2%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
