The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 585% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, pre-coated aggregates exports shrank to $X in 2022. In general, exports saw a sharp descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 338%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, South Africa (X tons) represented the largest exporter of pre-coated aggregates, achieving 81% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Namibia (X tons), constituting a 19% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to pre-coated aggregates exports from South Africa stood at -33.6%. At the same time, Namibia (+65.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Namibia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in SADC, with a CAGR of +65.1% from 2012-2022. While the share of Namibia (+19 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of South Africa (-18.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest pre-coated aggregates supplier in SADC, comprising 75% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Namibia ($X), with a 25% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in South Africa stood at -35.9%.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in SADC stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 19% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a perceptible descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the export price increased by 28%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Namibia ($X per ton), while South Africa totaled $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Namibia (+1.7%).

In 2022, imports of pre-coated aggregates in SADC reduced to X tons, which is down by -2.8% compared with 2021. In general, imports recorded a abrupt decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 32%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, pre-coated aggregates imports shrank to $X in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a pronounced contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 54% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Mozambique prevails in imports structure, amounting to X tons, which was approx. 92% of total imports in 2022. Madagascar (X tons) and Seychelles (X tons) took a little share of total imports.

Imports into Mozambique decreased at an average annual rate of -3.0% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Madagascar (+8.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Madagascar emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in SADC, with a CAGR of +8.5% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Seychelles (-13.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Mozambique and Madagascar increased by +37 and +2.3 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Mozambique ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported pre-coated aggregates in SADC, comprising 94% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Seychelles ($X), with a 1.8% share of total imports.

In Mozambique, pre-coated aggregates imports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Seychelles (-13.4% per year) and Madagascar (+5.8% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in SADC stood at $X per ton in 2022, declining by -3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed buoyant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the import price increased by 51%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then dropped modestly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Mozambique ($X per ton), while Madagascar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mozambique (+3.4%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
