In value terms, primary fiber crops exports expanded to $X in 2022. In general, exports recorded a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Tanzania represented the main exporter of fiber crops (primary) in SADC, with the volume of exports recording X tons, which was near X% of total exports in 2022. Zimbabwe (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a X% share, followed by Mozambique (X%), Madagascar (X%), Zambia (X%) and South Africa (X%). Malawi (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to primary fiber crops exports from Tanzania stood at X%. At the same time, Mozambique (X%) and Madagascar (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mozambique emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in SADC, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. By contrast, South Africa (X%), Malawi (X%), Zimbabwe (X%) and Zambia (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Tanzania (X p.p.), Mozambique (X p.p.) and Madagascar (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Zimbabwe and Zambia saw its share reduced by X% and X% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per ton), while Madagascar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Zambia (X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in SADC
Primary fiber crops imports skyrocketed to X tons in 2022, increasing by X% on the previous year's figure. Total imports indicated noticeable growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by X% against 2020 indices.
