Swaziland (+6.6 p.p.) and Angola (+5.1 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while South Africa and Mauritius saw its share reduced by -2.1% and -3.1% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, South Africa ($X), Angola ($X) and Namibia ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 92% of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, Namibia, with a CAGR of +9.2%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the import price in SADC amounted to $X per unit, picking up by 22% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
