Exports in SADC
In 2021, shipments abroad of pumps for liquids and liquid elevators increased by 14% to X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, exports, however, recorded a deep reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when exports increased by 125%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, pump for liquid exports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a mild shrinkage. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
In 2021, South Africa (X units) was the largest exporter of pumps for liquids and liquid elevators, committing 56% of total exports. Zambia (X units) took a 19% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Tanzania (6.4%), Namibia (5.8%) and Angola (5.3%). The following exporters - Zimbabwe (X units) and Botswana (X units) - each reached a 3.7% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to pump for liquid exports from South Africa stood at -6.8%. At the same time, Angola (+8.5%) and Zimbabwe (+7.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Angola emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in SADC, with a CAGR of +8.5% from 2012-2021. Zambia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Tanzania (-5.8%), Botswana (-16.0%) and Namibia (-19.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Zambia (+9.7 p.p.), Angola (+4 p.p.) and Zimbabwe (+1.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Botswana (-2.4 p.p.) and Namibia (-14.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest pump for liquid supplier in SADC, comprising 92% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Tanzania ($X), with a 2.2% share of total exports. It was followed by Angola, with a 2.1% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in South Africa stood at -1.7%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Tanzania (+15.4% per year) and Angola (+13.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in SADC stood at $X per unit in 2021, growing by 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a resilient increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the export price increased by 69%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per unit), while Zimbabwe ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Tanzania (+22.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Pump For Liquid Imports
Imports in SADC
In 2021, the amount of pumps for liquids and liquid elevators imported in SADC expanded slightly to X units, picking up by 3% on 2020 figures. Total imports indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +37.3% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 48% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, pump for liquid imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of import peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Zambia (X units) and South Africa (X units) prevails in imports structure, together comprising 74% of total imports. Zimbabwe (X units) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Angola (X units). All these countries together held near 16% share of total imports. Tanzania (X units) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Zambia (with a CAGR of +14.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported pumps for liquids and liquid elevators in SADC, comprising 45% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Angola, with a 9.7% share.
In South Africa, pump for liquid imports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Democratic Republic of the Congo (+1.9% per year) and Angola (-8.3% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in SADC amounted to $X per unit, rising by 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a noticeable contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the import price increased by 38%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X per unit), while Zambia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
