Radar Apparatus Market Size in SADC
The SADC radar apparatus market contracted slightly to $X in 2022, which is down by -3.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption recorded a noticeable curtailment. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Radar Apparatus Production in SADC
In value terms, radar apparatus production reduced modestly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production showed a noticeable decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the production volume increased by 11% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in SADC
In 2022, shipments abroad of radar apparatus, radio navigational aid apparatus and radio remote control apparatus increased by 115% to X units, rising for the fourth year in a row after six years of decline. In general, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, radar apparatus exports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when exports increased by 73%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
South Africa was the key exporting country with an export of around X units, which resulted at 61% of total exports. Botswana (X units) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 23% share, followed by Tanzania (5.8%). The following exporters - Namibia (X units) and Angola (X units) - each finished at a 6% share of total exports.
Exports from South Africa decreased at an average annual rate of -1.5% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Tanzania (+32.9%), Botswana (+26.9%) and Angola (+7.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Tanzania emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in SADC, with a CAGR of +32.9% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Namibia (-18.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Botswana, Tanzania and Angola increased by +21, +5.5 and +1.5 percentage points, respectively.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest radar apparatus supplier in SADC, comprising 97% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Namibia ($X), with a 0.9% share of total exports. It was followed by Angola, with a 0.8% share.
In South Africa, radar apparatus exports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Namibia (+3.7% per year) and Angola (+18.9% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in SADC stood at $X per unit in 2022, falling by -39.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the export price increased by 133% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2016 to 2022, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per unit), while Botswana ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Namibia (+27.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in SADC
After two years of decline, supplies from abroad of radar apparatus, radio navigational aid apparatus and radio remote control apparatus increased by 38% to X units in 2022. Total imports indicated a noticeable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 93%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, radar apparatus imports dropped to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 26% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
The purchases of the four major importers of radar apparatus, radio navigational aid apparatus and radio remote control apparatus, namely Seychelles, Angola, Mozambique and South Africa, represented more than two-thirds of total import. It was distantly followed by Tanzania (X units), making up a 6.9% share of total imports. The following importers - Botswana (X units) and Namibia (X units) - each accounted for an 8% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Seychelles (with a CAGR of +21.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported radar apparatus, radio navigational aid apparatus and radio remote control apparatus in SADC, comprising 64% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Seychelles ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Angola, with a 5.4% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in South Africa totaled -2.1%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Seychelles (+27.7% per year) and Angola (-4.0% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in SADC stood at $X per unit in 2022, falling by -31.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a noticeable decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the import price increased by 86%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per unit), while Mozambique ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
