Radiator Market Size in SADC

The SADC radiator market totaled $X in 2022, approximately equating the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, continues to indicate a noticeable curtailment. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the market remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Radiator Production in SADC

In value terms, radiator production totaled $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, recorded a pronounced descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the production volume increased by 7.9% against the previous year. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X. From 2015 to 2022, production growth failed to regain momentum.

Radiator Exports

Exports in SADC

After four years of growth, shipments abroad of radiators for central heating (not electrically heated) decreased by -0.9% to X tons in 2022. Overall, exports, however, posted modest growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 77%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons, leveling off in the following year.

In value terms, radiator exports reached $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 290% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

South Africa represented the main exporter of radiators for central heating (not electrically heated) in SADC, with the volume of exports accounting for X tons, which was near 81% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Botswana (X tons), creating a 17% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to radiator exports from South Africa stood at +1.2%. At the same time, Botswana (+21.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Botswana emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in SADC, with a CAGR of +21.2% from 2012-2022. While the share of Botswana (+14 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of South Africa (-2.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest radiator supplier in SADC, comprising 92% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Botswana ($X), with a 7.2% share of total exports.

In South Africa, radiator exports increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% over the period from 2012-2022.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in SADC amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 9.3% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a pronounced expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the export price increased by 120% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per ton), while Botswana amounted to $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (+4.4%).

Radiator Imports

Imports in SADC

In 2022, overseas purchases of radiators for central heating (not electrically heated) increased by 204% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a deep reduction. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, radiator imports soared to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a abrupt descent. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Mozambique prevails in imports structure, recording X tons, which was near 67% of total imports in 2022. Namibia (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 6.6% share, followed by Angola (5.4%) and South Africa (5.1%). Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons), Zimbabwe (X tons) and Tanzania (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Mozambique was also the fastest-growing in terms of the radiators for central heating (not electrically heated) imports, with a CAGR of +52.0% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Democratic Republic of the Congo (+10.7%), Zimbabwe (+8.5%) and Namibia (+3.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Angola experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, South Africa (-16.8%) and Tanzania (-23.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Mozambique (+66 p.p.), Namibia (+4.3 p.p.), Angola (+2.8 p.p.), Democratic Republic of the Congo (+2.2 p.p.) and Zimbabwe (+2.1 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of South Africa (-10.5 p.p.) and Tanzania (-14.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Mozambique ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported radiators for central heating (not electrically heated) in SADC, comprising 39% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Zimbabwe, with a 10% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Mozambique stood at +41.7%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Democratic Republic of the Congo (+18.5% per year) and Zimbabwe (+12.2% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in SADC stood at $X per ton in 2022, which is down by -27.3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a noticeable shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 22% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X per ton), while Tanzania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Democratic Republic of the Congo (+7.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
