The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 72%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

The biggest shipments were from South Africa (X units), together accounting for 98% of total export.
South Africa was also the fastest-growing in terms of the radio receivers for motor vehicles exports, with a CAGR of -4.0% from 2012 to 2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of South Africa increased by +2.2 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) also remains the largest vehicle radio supplier in SADC.

Imports in SADC
In 2022, overseas purchases of radio receivers for motor vehicles decreased by -2.7% to X units, falling for the fourth consecutive year after three years of growth. Overall, imports saw a noticeable downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 151% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, vehicle radio imports fell slightly to $X in 2022. In general, imports continue to indicate a noticeable slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 225%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2022, South Africa (X units) was the key importer of radio receivers for motor vehicles, creating 58% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Botswana (X units) and Mauritius (X units), together mixing up a 32% share of total imports. Tanzania (X units) and Namibia (X units) held a little share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to vehicle radio imports into South Africa stood at +1.6%. At the same time, Botswana (+25.9%) and Mauritius (+3.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Botswana emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in SADC, with a CAGR of +25.9% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Tanzania (-5.7%) and Namibia (-6.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported radio receivers for motor vehicles in SADC, comprising 69% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Botswana ($X), with a 7.8% share of total imports. It was followed by Tanzania, with a 6.6% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in South Africa amounted to -3.7%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Botswana (+5.0% per year) and Tanzania (-2.8% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in SADC stood at $X per unit in 2022, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a slight reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the import price increased by 62%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Tanzania ($X per unit), while Botswana ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mauritius (+6.0%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
