The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 261% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021, and then declined sharply in the following year.

Exports by Country

South Africa dominates exports structure, recording X tons, which was near 98% of total exports in 2022. Zambia (X tons) held a little share of total exports.

Exports from South Africa increased at an average annual rate of +9.4% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Zambia (+45.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Zambia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in SADC, with a CAGR of +45.4% from 2012-2022. While the share of South Africa (+4.4 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest reaction initiators and accelerators supplier in SADC, comprising 100% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Zambia ($X), with a 0.2% share of total exports.

In South Africa, reaction initiators and accelerators exports expanded at an average annual rate of +21.1% over the period from 2012-2022.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in SADC stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 29% against the previous year. Overall, the export price posted resilient growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the export price increased by 88%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per ton), while Zambia totaled $X per ton.

Imports in SADC

After two years of decline, supplies from abroad of reaction initiators, reaction accelerators and catalytic preparations increased by 31% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 33%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, reaction initiators and accelerators imports soared to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a measured expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +94.4% against 2019 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

South Africa dominates imports structure, amounting to X tons, which was near 86% of total imports in 2022. Zambia (X tons), Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons) and Tanzania (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.

South Africa experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of reaction initiators, reaction accelerators and catalytic preparations. At the same time, Zambia (+30.0%), Tanzania (+13.1%) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (+5.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Zambia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in SADC, with a CAGR of +30.0% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Zambia increased by +3.8 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported reaction initiators, reaction accelerators and catalytic preparations in SADC, comprising 94% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Zambia ($X), with a 1.8% share of total imports. It was followed by Democratic Republic of the Congo, with a 0.7% share.
