In 2022, refined cotton-seed oil imports in SADC surged to X tons, growing by 37% compared with the previous year. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a abrupt shrinkage. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, refined cotton-seed oil imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a abrupt descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 55% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons) and Lesotho (X tons) were the major importers of refined cotton-seed oil in SADC, together recording approx. 68% of total imports. Botswana (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 15% share, followed by Namibia (8.9%). South Africa (X tons) and Zimbabwe (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in SADC stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 12% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.2%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 19%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.
