In 2021, shipments abroad of residential, commercial and industrial lighting fixture was finally on the rise to reach X units after two years of decline. Overall, exports, however, recorded a abrupt descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 23%. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, exports of residential, commercial and industrial lighting fixture rose markedly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a deep setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when exports increased by 21%. Over the period under review, the exports of hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

South Africa prevails in fixture structure, resulting at X units, which was near 95% of total exports in 2021. Namibia (X units) took a relatively small share of total exports.
South Africa was also the fastest-growing in terms of the residential, commercial and industrial lighting fixture exports, with a CAGR of -6.3% from 2012 to 2021. Namibia (-7.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest residential, commercial and industrial lighting fixture supplier in SADC, comprising 96% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Namibia ($X), with a 0.8% share of total exports.
In South Africa, exports of residential, commercial and industrial lighting fixture shrank by an average annual rate of -5.9% over the period from 2012-2021.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in SADC stood at $X per unit in 2021, increasing by 13% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the export price increased by 20%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2020 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per unit), while Namibia amounted to $X per unit.

Imports in SADC
In 2021, supplies from abroad of residential, commercial and industrial lighting fixture increased by 32% to X units for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a pronounced decline. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, imports of residential, commercial and industrial lighting fixture soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, recorded a pronounced shrinkage. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
South Africa represented the key importing country with an import of around X units, which recorded 48% of total imports. Angola (X units) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Mauritius (X units), Tanzania (X units) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (X units). All these countries together took approx. 38% share of total imports. Mozambique (X units) and Madagascar (X units) held a little share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to residential, commercial and industrial lighting fixture imports into South Africa stood at -3.3%. At the same time, Democratic Republic of the Congo (+9.3%) and Mozambique (+2.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Democratic Republic of the Congo emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in SADC, with a CAGR of +9.3% from 2012-2021. Madagascar experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Tanzania (-3.3%), Mauritius (-4.1%) and Angola (-4.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Democratic Republic of the Congo increased by +3 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported residential, commercial and industrial lighting fixture in SADC, comprising 45% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Angola ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Mauritius, with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in South Africa stood at -3.6%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Angola (-9.6% per year) and Mauritius (-3.8% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in SADC amounted to $X per unit, surging by 3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a slight decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the import price increased by 14% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2017 to 2021, the import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X per unit), while Tanzania ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Madagascar (+2.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
