The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 33%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

South Africa dominates exports structure, resulting at X tons, which was near 95% of total exports in 2021. Zambia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from South Africa decreased at an average annual rate of -2.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Zambia (+14.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Zambia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in SADC, with a CAGR of +14.5% from 2012-2021. While the share of Zambia (+2.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of South Africa (-3.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest textile rubber hose supplier in SADC, comprising 96% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Zambia ($X), with a 2.1% share of total exports.

The export price in SADC stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 35% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.8%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per ton), while Zambia amounted to $X per ton.

Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a slight decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 56%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, textile rubber hose imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

South Africa dominates imports structure, finishing at X tons, which was approx. 72% of total imports in 2021. Angola (X tons) held a 7.6% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Tanzania (4.6%). The following importers - Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons), Zimbabwe (X tons), Zambia (X tons) and Mozambique (X tons) - together made up 12% of total imports.

Imports into South Africa decreased at an average annual rate of -2.6% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Mozambique (+11.4%), Democratic Republic of the Congo (+8.1%) and Tanzania (+6.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mozambique emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in SADC, with a CAGR of +11.4% from 2012-2021. Zimbabwe and Angola experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Zambia (-1.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Tanzania (+2.2 p.p.) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (+2.1 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of South Africa (-7.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported rubber hose reinforced with textiles in SADC, comprising 69% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Angola ($X), with a 7.5% share of total imports. It was followed by Democratic Republic of the Congo, with a 4.1% share.

In South Africa, textile rubber hose imports declined by an average annual rate of -1.7% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Angola (-3.8% per year) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (+2.7% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in SADC amounted to $X per ton, rising by 26% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Mozambique ($X per ton), while Tanzania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
