The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 21%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, South Africa (X tons) represented the main exporter of rubber tubing not reinforced in SADC, making up 97% of total export.

South Africa experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of rubber tubing not reinforced. South Africa (+3.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) also remains the largest non-reinforced rubber tubing supplier in SADC.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in South Africa was relatively modest.

The export price in SADC stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 12% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 23%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.

In 2021, after three years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas purchases of rubber tubing not reinforced, when their volume increased by 10% to X tons. Overall, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 29%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, non-reinforced rubber tubing imports reached $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 20% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

South Africa represented the main importer of rubber tubing not reinforced in SADC, with the volume of imports accounting for X tons, which was near 38% of total imports in 2021. Tanzania (X tons) took a 16% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Angola (11%), Democratic Republic of the Congo (7.7%), Botswana (5.2%) and Namibia (4.8%). Mozambique (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

South Africa experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of rubber tubing not reinforced. At the same time, Mozambique (+13.3%), Democratic Republic of the Congo (+10.8%), Tanzania (+5.8%) and Botswana (+3.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mozambique emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in SADC, with a CAGR of +13.3% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Namibia (-1.3%) and Angola (-6.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Tanzania, Democratic Republic of the Congo and Mozambique increased by +6.2, +4.6 and +2.3 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported rubber tubing not reinforced in SADC, comprising 46% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Tanzania ($X), with a 10% share of total imports. It was followed by Angola, with an 8.9% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in South Africa stood at +2.5%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Tanzania (+11.1% per year) and Angola (-10.6% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in SADC amounted to $X per ton, approximately mirroring the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 15%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per ton), while Tanzania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Namibia (+5.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
