Safety Glass Market Size in SADC

The SADC safety glass market reduced to $X in 2022, with a decrease of -3% against the previous year. The total consumption indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, consumption decreased by -10.9% against 2019 indices. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Safety Glass Production in SADC

In value terms, safety glass production dropped to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. The total production indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production decreased by -14.0% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 36%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

Safety Glass Exports

Exports in SADC

In 2022, shipments abroad of safety glass decreased by -25.7% to X square meters for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 50% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X square meters. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, safety glass exports shrank notably to $X in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a perceptible decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2022, South Africa (X square meters) represented the largest exporter of safety glass in SADC, comprising 99% of total export.

South Africa experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of safety glass. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) also remains the largest safety glass supplier in SADC.

In South Africa, safety glass exports contracted by an average annual rate of -4.2% over the period from 2012-2022.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in SADC amounted to $X per square meter, reducing by -16.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a perceptible contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 60%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per square meter. From 2020 to 2022, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for South Africa.

From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for South Africa amounted to -4.7% per year.

Safety Glass Imports

Imports in SADC

For the sixth consecutive year, SADC recorded growth in supplies from abroad of safety glass, which increased by 3.7% to X square meters in 2022. Total imports indicated a pronounced increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +91.9% against 2016 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 51% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, safety glass imports expanded notably to $X in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 29% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

South Africa represented the key importer of safety glass in SADC, with the volume of imports reaching X square meters, which was near 46% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Angola (X square meters), Mauritius (X square meters), Namibia (X square meters), Tanzania (X square meters) and Mozambique (X square meters), together making up a 35% share of total imports. Madagascar (X square meters) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to safety glass imports into South Africa stood at +6.9%. At the same time, Madagascar (+13.6%), Mozambique (+12.2%), Namibia (+5.1%) and Tanzania (+1.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Madagascar emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in SADC, with a CAGR of +13.6% from 2012-2022. Angola experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Mauritius (-4.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of South Africa, Mozambique and Madagascar increased by +13, +2.6 and +2.5 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported safety glass in SADC, comprising 57% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Angola ($X), with a 9.1% share of total imports. It was followed by Namibia, with a 5.5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in South Africa amounted to +2.4%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Angola (-4.5% per year) and Namibia (-0.3% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in SADC stood at $X per square meter in 2022, increasing by 9% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a perceptible reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the import price increased by 33%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per square meter. From 2017 to 2022, the import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per square meter), while Mauritius ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Madagascar (+1.8%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
