South Africa (X cubic meters) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 23% share, followed by Mozambique (7.3%) and Angola (6.4%). The following exporters - Zambia (X cubic meters) and Tanzania (X cubic meters) - each reached a 6.2% share of total exports.

Exports from Democratic Republic of the Congo increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Zambia (+41.6%), Tanzania (+7.4%), Angola (+7.2%) and South Africa (+3.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Zambia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in SADC, with a CAGR of +41.6% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Mozambique (-12.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Democratic Republic of the Congo (+13 p.p.), South Africa (+4.8 p.p.), Zambia (+3.3 p.p.) and Angola (+2.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Mozambique saw its share reduced by -23.5% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X) remains the largest saw logs and veneer logs (non-coniferous) supplier in SADC, comprising 71% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by South Africa ($X), with a 9.1% share of total exports. It was followed by Angola, with a 6.5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Democratic Republic of the Congo stood at +1.8%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: South Africa (+3.2% per year) and Angola (+4.0% per year).

Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 102% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X cubic meters. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports of remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, imports of saw logs and veneer logs (non-coniferous) dropped notably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a noticeable setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 47% against the previous year.
