In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest scrapers excavator supplier in SADC, comprising 78% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Tanzania ($X), with a 6.8% share of total exports. It was followed by Democratic Republic of the Congo, with a 4.4% share.
In South Africa, scrapers excavator exports plunged by an average annual rate of -7.2% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Tanzania (+29.4% per year) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (+18.0% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in SADC amounted to $X per unit, picking up by 4.1% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a slight expansion. In general, imports, however, saw a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 45% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, scrapers excavator imports contracted to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, faced a deep contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 87%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
South Africa (X units) and Botswana (X units) represented roughly 57% of total imports in 2022. Zimbabwe (X units) ranks next in terms of the total imports with an 11% share, followed by Democratic Republic of the Congo (8.5%). Angola (X units), Zambia (X units), Tanzania (X units), Namibia (X units), Mauritius (X units), Mozambique (X units) and Madagascar (X units) held a relatively small share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Zimbabwe (with a CAGR of +25.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
