In 2022, shipments abroad of slates and boards with writing or drawing surfaces increased by 11% to X units, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Overall, exports, however, saw a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 39%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, drawing board exports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 28% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

South Africa dominates exports structure, finishing at X units, which was near 96% of total exports in 2022. Angola (X units) took a relatively small share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to drawing board exports from South Africa stood at -5.4%. At the same time, Angola (+51.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Angola emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in SADC, with a CAGR of +51.8% from 2012-2022. South Africa experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of slates and boards with writing or drawing surfaces. At the same time, Mozambique (+16.2%) and Mauritius (+1.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mozambique emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in SADC, with a CAGR of +16.2% from 2012-2022. Zambia, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Zimbabwe and Tanzania experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Madagascar (-3.3%), Angola (-6.6%), Namibia (-8.0%) and Botswana (-9.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The second position in the ranking was taken by Angola ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Mozambique, with an 11% share.

In South Africa, drawing board imports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Angola (-9.3% per year) and Mozambique (+11.6% per year).

Import Prices by Country
