In value terms, snow ploughs and blowers exports expanded significantly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports recorded a deep downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 860% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

South Africa prevails in exports structure, reaching X units, which was approx. 95% of total exports in 2022. The following exporters - Botswana (X units) and Namibia (X units) - each recorded a 3.8% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to snow ploughs and blowers exports from South Africa stood at -8.1%. Botswana experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Namibia (-6.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. South Africa (+14 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the export price increased by 1,453%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2018 to 2022, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per unit), while Botswana ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (-5.7%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in SADC

After four years of growth, overseas purchases of snow-ploughs and snow-blowers decreased by -53.9% to X units in 2022. In general, imports recorded a deep setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when imports increased by 86%. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, snow ploughs and blowers imports dropped significantly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a abrupt curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 41% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Swaziland was the key importer of snow-ploughs and snow-blowers in SADC, with the volume of imports reaching X units, which was near 55% of total imports in 2022. Malawi (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 10% share, followed by Tanzania (9.1%), Angola (6.5%), Botswana (5.2%) and Zimbabwe (5.2%). The following importers - Democratic Republic of the Congo (X units) and Mozambique (X units) - each finished at a 5.2% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to snow ploughs and blowers imports into Swaziland stood at -22.9%. At the same time, Malawi (+14.9%) and Botswana (+14.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Malawi emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in SADC, with a CAGR of +14.9% from 2012-2022. Mozambique experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Democratic Republic of the Congo (-4.0%), Zimbabwe (-10.4%), Angola (-11.0%) and Tanzania (-17.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Malawi, Botswana, Angola, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Tanzania and Democratic Republic of the Congo increased by +10, +5, +4.1, +3.4, +2.3, +2.3 and +2.1 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Tanzania ($X), Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X) and Swaziland ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 23% share of total imports. Zimbabwe, Malawi, Angola, Botswana and Mozambique lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 12%.

Among the main importing countries, Malawi, with a CAGR of +21.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in SADC stood at $X per unit in 2022, picking up by 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price posted a prominent expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the import price increased by 99%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X per unit), while Botswana ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mozambique (+6.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
