Zambia (X litres) and South Africa (X litres) prevails in exports structure, together creating 94% of total exports. Tanzania (X litres) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Zambia (with a CAGR of +50.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, South Africa ($X), Zambia ($X) and Tanzania ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together accounting for 97% of total exports.

Among the main exporting countries, Zambia, with a CAGR of +41.9%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in SADC amounted to $X per litre, waning by -7.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a abrupt contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 an increase of 16% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per litre in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per litre), while Tanzania ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.

The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. Imports by Country

In 2021, Democratic Republic of the Congo (X litres) was the largest importer of soft drinks, generating 39% of total imports. South Africa (X litres) took a 15% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Botswana (14%), Namibia (5.8%), Swaziland (5.3%), Zimbabwe (5%) and Lesotho (4.7%).

Democratic Republic of the Congo was also the fastest-growing in terms of the soft drinks imports, with a CAGR of +36.9% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Botswana (+29.4%), Lesotho (+25.3%), Swaziland (+16.8%), Namibia (+12.8%), South Africa (+7.9%) and Zimbabwe (+4.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. While the share of Democratic Republic of the Congo (+33 p.p.), Botswana (+11 p.p.), Lesotho (+3.3 p.p.) and Swaziland (+2.3 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of South Africa (-2 p.p.) and Zimbabwe (-2.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest soft drink importing markets in SADC were Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X), South Africa ($X) and Botswana ($X), together comprising 67% of total imports.

Democratic Republic of the Congo, with a CAGR of +26.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in SADC stood at $X per litre in 2021, reducing by -2.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a abrupt descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 14%. The level of import peaked at $X per litre in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
