Hand Stamp Market Size in SADC

The SADC hand stamp market fell to $X in 2022, which is down by -2.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the market attained the maximum level at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, hand stamp production amounted to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production saw a slight slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the production volume increased by 16% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production reached the peak level at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, shipments abroad of stamps for use in the hand increased by 14% to X units, rising for the second year in a row after six years of decline. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 46%. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, hand stamp exports soared to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a slight slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 32% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

The shipments of the one major exporters of stamps for use in the hand, namely South Africa, represented more than two-thirds of total export.

South Africa was also the fastest-growing in terms of the stamps for use in the hand exports, with a CAGR of -3.4% from 2012 to 2022. While the share of South Africa (-2.4 p.p.) decreased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) also remains the largest hand stamp supplier in SADC.

In South Africa, hand stamp exports decreased by an average annual rate of -1.9% over the period from 2012-2022.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in SADC stood at $X per unit in 2022, rising by 1.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded mild growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the export price increased by 66%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for South Africa.

From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for South Africa amounted to +1.5% per year.

Hand Stamp Imports

Imports in SADC

In 2022, approx. X units of stamps for use in the hand were imported in SADC; picking up by 8.9% on 2021 figures. Total imports indicated a modest expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +80.4% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 66%. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

In value terms, hand stamp imports dropped markedly to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a perceptible descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 56% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

South Africa represented the main importing country with an import of around X units, which recorded 38% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Tanzania (X units), Mozambique (X units) and Angola (X units), together mixing up a 44% share of total imports. Namibia (X units), Botswana (X units) and Madagascar (X units) held a relatively small share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Mozambique (with a CAGR of +26.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported stamps for use in the hand in SADC, comprising 53% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Mozambique ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Angola, with a 6.8% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in South Africa stood at -5.2%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Mozambique (+24.0% per year) and Angola (-11.2% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in SADC stood at $X per unit in 2022, reducing by -22.4% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a abrupt setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the import price increased by 12% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2015 to 2022, the import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Botswana ($X per unit), while Tanzania ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Botswana (+1.2%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
