In 2021, the SADC super-heated water boiler market decreased by -89.5% to $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Overall, consumption recorded a mild decline. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X, and then contracted sharply in the following year.

Super-Heated Water Boiler Production in SADC

In value terms, super-heated water boiler production shrank to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, recorded a slight slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 28%. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, production remained at a lower figure.

Super-heated water boiler exports fell sharply to X tons in 2021, which is down by -49.3% on the previous year's figure. In general, exports showed a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 403%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, super-heated water boiler exports contracted notably to $X in 2021. Overall, exports recorded a abrupt downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 478%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

South Africa represented the main exporting country with an export of around X tons, which reached 75% of total exports. Lesotho (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 24% share of total exports.

Exports from South Africa decreased at an average annual rate of -10.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Lesotho (+73.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Lesotho emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in SADC, with a CAGR of +73.7% from 2012-2021. Democratic Republic of the Congo experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. While the share of Lesotho (+19 p.p.) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (+4.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of South Africa (-18.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest super-heated water boiler supplier in SADC, comprising 95% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Lesotho ($X), with a 3.5% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in South Africa amounted to -7.2%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Lesotho (+42.9% per year) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (0.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in SADC stood at $X per ton in 2021, with a decrease of -27.3% against the previous year. Export price indicated mild growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, super-heated water boiler export price decreased by -29.4% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 an increase of 94% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per ton), while Lesotho ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (+3.7%).

In 2021, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of super-heated water boilers, when their volume decreased by -99.6% to X tons. In general, imports saw a mild descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 21,907% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then fell rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, super-heated water boiler imports declined rapidly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a mild contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 10,256%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then contracted notably in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Zambia (X tons) was the key importer of super-heated water boilers, generating 36% of total imports. South Africa (X tons) took a 19% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Malawi (16%), Mozambique (8.5%), Angola (5.5%), Lesotho (5%) and Botswana (4.8%).

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Zambia (with a CAGR of +29.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, South Africa ($X), Zambia ($X) and Botswana ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 69% share of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, Zambia, with a CAGR of +34.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in SADC stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 193% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Botswana ($X per ton), while Lesotho ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
