The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, thiosulphates exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, recorded a abrupt shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 89% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
South Africa was the largest exporting country with an export of about X tons, which reached 84% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Angola (X tons), making up a 14% share of total exports. Mauritius (X kg) took a minor share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to thiosulphates exports from South Africa stood at -26.8%. Mauritius (-7.0%) and Angola (-25.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Angola (+14 p.p.) and Mauritius (+1.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of South Africa (-16.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest thiosulphates supplier in SADC, comprising 90% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Angola ($X), with a 6.8% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in South Africa amounted to -16.6%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Angola (-10.7% per year) and Mauritius (+4.7% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in SADC stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 25% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 173%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Mauritius ($X per ton), while Angola ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Angola (+20.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, approx. X tons of thiosulphates were imported in SADC; declining by -12.4% compared with 2020. Total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -5.6% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 46% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2020, and then dropped in the following year.
In value terms, thiosulphates imports soared to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +26.5% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 55% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
South Africa dominates imports structure, recording X tons, which was approx. 95% of total imports in 2021. Madagascar (X tons) held a little share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to thiosulphates imports into South Africa stood at +5.9%. At the same time, Madagascar (+8.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Madagascar emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in SADC, with a CAGR of +8.4% from 2012-2021. While the share of South Africa (+4 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported thiosulphates in SADC, comprising 78% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Madagascar ($X), with a 4.5% share of total imports.

Import Prices by Country
The import price in SADC stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 54% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a noticeable descent.
