Exports in SADC
Transporter and bridge cranes exports shrank to X units in 2021, with a decrease of -9.3% against the year before. In general, exports faced a abrupt curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 80% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, transporter and bridge cranes exports totaled $X in 2021. Overall, exports recorded a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 70% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
South Africa represented the key exporting country with an export of about X units, which resulted at 39% of total exports. Democratic Republic of the Congo (X units) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Angola (X units), Lesotho (X units), Zimbabwe (X units) and Zambia (X units). All these countries together took approx. 55% share of total exports. Tanzania (X units) held a minor share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Lesotho (with a CAGR of +56.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest transporter and bridge cranes supplier in SADC, comprising 42% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Angola ($X), with a 20% share of total exports. It was followed by Democratic Republic of the Congo, with a 14% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in South Africa totaled -14.6%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Angola (+14.6% per year) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (+14.9% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in SADC stood at $X per unit in 2021, growing by 11% against the previous year. Export price indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +7.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, transporter and bridge cranes export price decreased by -11.1% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 34%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Angola ($X per unit), while Zimbabwe ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in SADC
Transporter and bridge cranes imports skyrocketed to X units in 2021, rising by 19% compared with 2020 figures. In general, imports, however, showed a deep downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 135% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Mozambique dominates imports structure, finishing at X units, which was approx. 63% of total imports in 2021. Tanzania (X units) took the second position in the ranking, followed by South Africa (X units). All these countries together took near 15% share of total imports. The following importers - Democratic Republic of the Congo (X units), Namibia (X units), Zimbabwe (X units), Angola (X units), Lesotho (X units) and Botswana (X units) - together made up 18% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to transporter and bridge cranes imports into Mozambique stood at +50.8%. At the same time, Lesotho (+55.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Lesotho emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in SADC, with a CAGR of +55.1% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Tanzania (-1.0%), Botswana (-3.1%), Democratic Republic of the Congo (-7.1%), Zimbabwe (-14.5%), Namibia (-15.7%), Angola (-28.6%) and South Africa (-39.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Mozambique (+62 p.p.), Tanzania (+8.3 p.p.), Democratic Republic of the Congo (+3.2 p.p.) and Lesotho (+2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Angola and South Africa saw its share reduced by -5.5% and -68.6% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Mozambique ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported transporter cranes, gantry cranes and bridge cranes in SADC, comprising 68% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by South Africa ($X), with a 6.1% share of total imports. It was followed by Angola, with a 4.1% share.
In Mozambique, transporter and bridge cranes imports expanded at an average annual rate of +48.6% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: South Africa (-34.9% per year) and Angola (-28.7% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in SADC amounted to $X per unit, with an increase of 40% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a perceptible expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the import price increased by 158% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
