The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 13%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, rubber tube and pipe exports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of export peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
South Africa dominates exports structure, accounting for X tons, which was near 90% of total exports in 2021. The following exporters - Swaziland (X tons), Namibia (X tons) and Angola (X tons) - together made up 8.4% of total exports.
Exports from South Africa increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Angola (+29.7%) and Namibia (+2.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Angola emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in SADC, with a CAGR of +29.7% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Swaziland (-3.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Angola increased by +1.7 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest rubber tube and pipe supplier in SADC, comprising 94% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Swaziland ($X), with a 2% share of total exports. It was followed by Angola, with a 1.2% share.
In South Africa, rubber tube and pipe exports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Swaziland (-6.1% per year) and Angola (+25.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in SADC stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per ton), while Namibia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (-0.8%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in SADC
In 2021, supplies from abroad of tubes, pipes and hoses of vulcanized rubber was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 28% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, rubber tube and pipe imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, saw a mild shrinkage. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
South Africa dominates imports structure, finishing at X tons, which was approx. 61% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Angola (X tons), Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons), Tanzania (X tons) and Zambia (X tons), together generating a 24% share of total imports. Namibia (X tons) and Mozambique (X tons) took a little share of total imports.
South Africa experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of tubes, pipes and hoses of vulcanized rubber. At the same time, Democratic Republic of the Congo (+10.5%), Zambia (+2.0%) and Namibia (+1.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Democratic Republic of the Congo emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in SADC, with a CAGR of +10.5% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Mozambique (-3.1%), Angola (-7.7%) and Tanzania (-8.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of South Africa and Democratic Republic of the Congo increased by +5.8 and +4.2 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported tubes, pipes and hoses of vulcanized rubber in SADC, comprising 52% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Angola ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Democratic Republic of the Congo, with an 8% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in South Africa was relatively modest. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Angola (-9.1% per year) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (+8.8% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in SADC amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 8.2% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the import price increased by 18%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Angola ($X per ton), while South Africa ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Namibia (+6.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
