From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, turbo-jet (over X kn) exports reduced remarkably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports faced a precipitous curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 5,205% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

South Africa represented the key exporter of turbo-jets of a thrust exceeding X kn in SADC, with the volume of exports reaching X units, which was near 60% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Angola (X units), Tanzania (X units), Democratic Republic of the Congo (X units) and Namibia (X units), together mixing up a 40% share of total exports.

Exports from South Africa decreased at an average annual rate of -16.0% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Angola (+8.0%) and Tanzania (+8.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Angola emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in SADC, with a CAGR of +8.0% from 2012-2021. Namibia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Democratic Republic of the Congo (-14.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Angola, Tanzania, Democratic Republic of the Congo and Namibia increased by +11, +11, +6.7 and +4.5 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) emerged as the largest turbo-jet (over X kn) supplier in SADC, comprising 61% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Angola ($X), with a 21% share of total exports. It was followed by Democratic Republic of the Congo, with a 9.4% share.

In South Africa, turbo-jet (over X kn) exports plunged by an average annual rate of -25.4% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Angola (+45.8% per year) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (+64.7% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in SADC stood at $X per unit in 2021, which is down by -70.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a abrupt descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the export price increased by 433% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2020 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Angola ($X per unit), while Namibia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Tanzania (+50.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, overseas purchases of turbo-jets of a thrust exceeding X kn decreased by -8.9% to X units, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. In general, imports, however, enjoyed strong growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 502% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, turbo-jet (over X kn) imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports saw a abrupt descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 168%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Zimbabwe (X units) was the main importer of turbo-jets of a thrust exceeding X kn, generating 67% of total imports. Madagascar (X units) held a 15% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Democratic Republic of the Congo (11%). South Africa (X units) and Mozambique (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Zimbabwe was also the fastest-growing in terms of the turbo-jets of a thrust exceeding X kn imports, with a CAGR of +50.7% from 2012 to 2021. The second position in the ranking was taken by Zimbabwe ($X), with a 3.7% share of total imports. It was followed by Mozambique, with a 2.2% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in South Africa amounted to -12.7%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Zimbabwe (+31.3% per year) and Mozambique (+17.4% per year).

Import Prices by Country
