As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Angola (X tons), Botswana (X tons), Namibia (X tons), Madagascar (X tons) and Tanzania (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to vacuum cleaner with motor imports into South Africa stood at +1.3%. At the same time, Mauritius (+11.9%), Madagascar (+5.5%) and Botswana (+3.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mauritius emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in SADC, with a CAGR of +11.9% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Angola (-4.2%), Namibia (-8.0%) and Tanzania (-9.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Mauritius (+3 p.p.) and Botswana (+2.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Angola (-2.4 p.p.), Namibia (-2.7 p.p.) and Tanzania (-2.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported vacuum cleaners with motor in SADC, comprising 83% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Mauritius ($X), with a 5.1% share of total imports. It was followed by Angola, with a 3% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in South Africa totaled +3.3%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Mauritius (+13.3% per year) and Angola (-2.9% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in SADC stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 5.3% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.2%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 14% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
