For the third consecutive year, the SADC video monitor market recorded decline in sales value, which decreased by -4.5% to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a deep reduction. Over the period under review, the market attained the maximum level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.
Video Monitor Production in SADC
In value terms, video monitor production expanded slightly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, posted temperate growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 188% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports in SADC
In 2021, approx. X units of video monitors were exported in SADC; increasing by 9.9% compared with 2020. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 32%. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, video monitor exports contracted to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, saw a abrupt slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 17%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
South Africa represented the main exporter of video monitors in SADC, with the volume of exports reaching X units, which was near 64% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Botswana (X units), comprising a 34% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Botswana (with a CAGR of +10.3%).
In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest video monitor supplier in SADC, comprising 79% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Botswana ($X), with an 18% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in South Africa amounted to -8.8%.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in SADC amounted to $X per unit, which is down by -15.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a perceptible contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the export price increased by 19%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per unit), while Botswana amounted to $X per unit.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Botswana (+8.4%).

Imports in SADC
In 2021, purchases abroad of video monitors increased by 17% to X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, imports, however, saw a abrupt descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 23%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, video monitor imports stood at $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible descent. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
South Africa was the largest importing country with an import of about X units, which amounted to 57% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Botswana (X units), Tanzania (X units) and Angola (X units), together generating a 24% share of total imports. Zambia (X units), Mauritius (X units) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Imports into South Africa decreased at an average annual rate of -8.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Democratic Republic of the Congo (+16.8%), Zambia (+4.5%) and Mauritius (+2.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Democratic Republic of the Congo emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in SADC, with a CAGR of +16.8% from 2012-2021. Tanzania experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Botswana (-6.7%) and Angola (-7.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Botswana (+11 p.p.), Tanzania (+3 p.p.), Zambia (+2.6 p.p.), Mauritius (+1.9 p.p.) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (+1.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while South Africa saw its share reduced by -13.9% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported video monitors in SADC, comprising 66% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Angola ($X), with a 5.7% share of total imports. It was followed by Mauritius, with a 5.5% share.
In South Africa, video monitor imports declined by an average annual rate of -6.0% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Angola (-11.5% per year) and Mauritius (+1.5% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in SADC stood at $X per unit in 2021, shrinking by -1.7% against the previous year. Import price indicated a mild increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, video monitor import price decreased by -13.5% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 43% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2014 to 2021, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Mauritius ($X per unit), while Tanzania ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
