Bracelet Market Size in SADC

The SADC bracelet market shrank slightly to $X in 2022, which is down by -1.9% against the previous year. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Bracelet Production in SADC

In value terms, bracelet production declined to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the production volume increased by 26%. Over the period under review, production reached the maximum level at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

Bracelet Exports

Exports in SADC

In 2022, bracelet exports in SADC declined notably to X units, waning by -21% compared with 2021 figures. Overall, exports continue to indicate a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 38% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, bracelet exports shrank to $X in 2022. In general, exports showed a perceptible setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 31%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Madagascar represented the main exporter of watch straps, bands and bracelets in SADC, with the volume of exports reaching X units, which was near 70% of total exports in 2022. Mauritius (X units) took the second position in the ranking, followed by South Africa (X units). All these countries together held near 27% share of total exports. Swaziland (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Madagascar experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of watch straps, bands and bracelets. At the same time, Swaziland (+39.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Swaziland emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in SADC, with a CAGR of +39.9% from 2012-2022. By contrast, South Africa (-9.9%) and Mauritius (-16.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Madagascar (+33 p.p.) and Swaziland (+2.4 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of South Africa (-4.9 p.p.) and Mauritius (-30.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, the largest bracelet supplying countries in SADC were Madagascar ($X), Mauritius ($X) and South Africa ($X), together comprising 100% of total exports. Swaziland lagged somewhat behind, comprising a further 0.3%.

Among the main exporting countries, Swaziland, with a CAGR of +13.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in SADC stood at $X per unit in 2022, picking up by 16% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.5%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the export price increased by 34% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Mauritius ($X per unit), while Swaziland ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (+11.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Bracelet Imports

Imports in SADC

In 2022, the amount of watch straps, bands and bracelets imported in SADC totaled X units, picking up by 6% against 2021 figures. Over the period under review, imports recorded perceptible growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 68%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, bracelet imports dropped sharply to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a noticeable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +51.1% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 86%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then reduced sharply in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, South Africa (X units) represented the major importer of watch straps, bands and bracelets, making up 64% of total imports. Madagascar (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 20% share, followed by Mauritius (6.2%). Namibia (X units), Tanzania (X units) and Angola (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to bracelet imports into South Africa stood at +14.1%. At the same time, Madagascar (+54.9%) and Tanzania (+36.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Madagascar emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in SADC, with a CAGR of +54.9% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Angola (-5.6%), Namibia (-11.4%) and Mauritius (-13.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of South Africa, Madagascar and Tanzania increased by +37, +20 and +2.1 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, the largest bracelet importing markets in SADC were Madagascar ($X), South Africa ($X) and Mauritius ($X), together comprising 95% of total imports.

Madagascar, with a CAGR of +61.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in SADC amounted to $X per unit, waning by -23.5% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the import price increased by 47%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2017 to 2022, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Mauritius ($X per unit), while Angola ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
