In 2022, South Africa (X units) represented the main importer of wooden furniture of a kind used in the bedroom, making up 56% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Angola (X units) and Botswana (X units), together making up a 22% share of total imports. The following importers - Swaziland (X units), Namibia (X units), Democratic Republic of the Congo (X units), Mauritius (X units), Tanzania (X units), Mozambique (X units) and Zambia (X units) - together made up 17% of total imports.

Imports into South Africa decreased at an average annual rate of -5.1% from 2012 to 2022. By contrast, Namibia (-2.7%), Democratic Republic of the Congo (-2.9%), Zambia (-3.8%), Tanzania (-5.2%), Mozambique (-8.5%) and Angola (-14.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Botswana (+7.5 p.p.), South Africa (+5.2 p.p.) and Swaziland (+2.4 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Angola saw its share reduced by -19.3% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported wooden furniture of a kind used in the bedroom in SADC, comprising 32% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Angola ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by Botswana, with a 14% share.

In South Africa, wooden bedroom furniture imports declined by an average annual rate of -5.2% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Angola (-14.6% per year) and Botswana (+5.8% per year).

Import Prices by Country
