The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the production volume increased by 30%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in SADC
In 2022, shipments abroad of wooden furniture for kitchens increased by 8.8% to X units, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Overall, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 82% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, wooden kitchen furniture exports expanded modestly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a noticeable decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 89% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
South Africa dominates exports structure, finishing at X units, which was near 85% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Mauritius (X units), creating a 6.3% share of total exports. The following exporters - Botswana (X units), Seychelles (X units) and Namibia (X units) - together made up 7.7% of total exports.
South Africa experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of wooden furniture for kitchens. At the same time, Seychelles (+41.5%), Mauritius (+29.2%) and Botswana (+11.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Seychelles emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in SADC, with a CAGR of +41.5% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Namibia (-15.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Mauritius (+5.8 p.p.), Seychelles (+2.3 p.p.) and Botswana (+2.1 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Namibia (-8.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest wooden kitchen furniture supplier in SADC, comprising 82% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Namibia ($X), with a 7.2% share of total exports. It was followed by Mauritius, with a 5.1% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in South Africa totaled -2.7%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Namibia (-10.1% per year) and Mauritius (+15.7% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in SADC stood at $X per unit in 2022, reducing by -4.9% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a noticeable curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 12%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Namibia ($X per unit), while Seychelles ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Namibia (+6.2%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in SADC
Wooden kitchen furniture imports contracted significantly to X units in 2022, falling by -24.9% on the previous year's figure. Overall, imports showed a perceptible downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 54% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, wooden kitchen furniture imports dropped remarkably to $X in 2022. In general, imports continue to indicate a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 42% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
South Africa prevails in imports structure, finishing at X units, which was near 60% of total imports in 2022. Angola (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 6.1% share, followed by Democratic Republic of the Congo (5.5%). Zambia (X units), Mauritius (X units), Mozambique (X units), Botswana (X units), Lesotho (X units), Madagascar (X units), Tanzania (X units) and Namibia (X units) took a little share of total imports.
Imports into South Africa increased at an average annual rate of +6.7% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Madagascar (+20.5%) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (+7.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Madagascar emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in SADC, with a CAGR of +20.5% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Zambia (-1.2%), Mauritius (-2.6%), Botswana (-2.6%), Lesotho (-3.2%), Namibia (-7.6%), Tanzania (-7.8%), Mozambique (-10.4%) and Angola (-20.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. South Africa (+37 p.p.), Democratic Republic of the Congo (+3.6 p.p.) and Madagascar (+2.3 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Mozambique and Angola saw its share reduced by -4.1% and -36.8% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported wooden furniture for kitchens in SADC, comprising 35% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Mauritius ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by Democratic Republic of the Congo, with an 8.9% share.
In South Africa, wooden kitchen furniture imports increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Mauritius (+3.3% per year) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (+7.4% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in SADC stood at $X per unit in 2022, picking up by 4.4% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a noticeable slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the import price increased by 7.6%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit.
