In 2021, overseas purchases of bridges, bridge sections, towers and lattice masts (of iron or steel) increased by 5.4% to X tons, rising for the third consecutive year after three years of decline. In general, total imports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +49.8% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 45%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, bridge imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed a noticeable expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 78% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Bahrain (X tons) constituted the largest bridge supplier to Saudi Arabia, with a 74% share of total imports. Moreover, bridge imports from Bahrain exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, India (X tons), sixfold. Kuwait (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 7.8% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Bahrain amounted to +90.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (+9.7% per year) and Kuwait (-4.8% per year).

The second position in the ranking was taken by India ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Kuwait, with a 10% share.
