From 2021 to 2022, production growth remained at a somewhat lower figure.
The average yield of chilies and peppers (green) in Saudi Arabia contracted modestly to X tons per ha in 2022, which is down by -3.7% on 2021. Over the period under review, the yield, however, recorded modest growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the yield increased by 91% against the previous year. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 199%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then declined notably in the following year.
In value terms, chili and pepper exports amounted to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 189% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Kuwait (X tons), Bahrain (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons) were the main destinations of chili and pepper exports from Saudi Arabia, with a combined 100% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Bahrain (with a CAGR of +52.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
In value terms, Kuwait ($X) remains the key foreign market for chilies and peppers (green) exports from Saudi Arabia, comprising 75% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Bahrain ($X), with a 23% share of total exports.

In 2022, the average chili and pepper export price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 26% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a noticeable setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average export price increased by 33% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Bahrain ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Qatar (-1.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Saudi Arabia
In 2022, approx. X tons of chilies and peppers (green) were imported into Saudi Arabia; falling by -3.4% compared with the year before. Overall, imports, however, showed a remarkable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 64% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, chili and pepper imports reduced to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -9.4% against 2019 indices. In 2022, Jordan (X tons) constituted the largest chili and pepper supplier to Saudi Arabia, with a 75% share of total imports. Moreover, chili and pepper imports from Jordan exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, India (X tons), sixfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Egypt (X tons), with a 5.9% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Jordan stood at +46.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (-3.0% per year) and Egypt (-5.1% per year).
In value terms, Jordan ($X) constituted the largest supplier of chilies and peppers (green) to Saudi Arabia, comprising 54% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by India ($X), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by Egypt, with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Jordan stood at +43.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (-0.3% per year) and Egypt (-9.4% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average chili and pepper import price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 3.3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a pronounced contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 14%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Oman ($X per ton), while the price for Syrian Arab Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Pakistan (+28.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
